Oakland County Snow Plows Are Going Green This Winter

Check out why snow plows and green lights go together.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI Be on the lookout for green lights this winter!

The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) is installing green lights on six winter maintenance vehicles to improve visibility/safety and alert drivers to slow down when approaching a snowplow, according to a press release.

Why green? “The human eye is very sensitive to yellow/amber and green lights which is the reason many road agencies are using these colors on winter-maintenance vehicles,” RCOC Managing Director Dennis Kolar said in a press release. Kolar continued, “The addition of green lights will hopefully enhance safety, improve the visibility of RCOC trucks and prevent crashes.”

And there could be a whole lot more green lights in the future! The RCOC will monitor the green lights' effectiveness and if safety improves, more winter maintenance vehicles will get the green light for actual green lights!
