Neighbor Puts Out Flaming Shrubs with Hose; Heroin, Needles Found at Park

Bushes catch fire in back yard

A man on the 4000 block of Rambling reports that four full-grown arborvitae shrubs were found engulfed in flames in a resident's back yard. A neighbor was able to extinguish the fire with a garden hose. The cause of the fire is not known.

Heroin, alcohol, needles found at park

Troy officers responded to a call at early Tuesday morning after someone reported seeing suspicious persons. When officers arrived, two people were seen running from the shelter.

Upon searching the area, officers found a half gallon of vodka, a 22-ounce beer, six hypodermic needles and a substance that tested positive for heroin at the scene.

Teens fight after bonfire

Two teens reportedly fought following a bonfire Monday evening on the 1000 block of Judy. According to Troy Police, an 18-year-old Oakland Township man sustained a cut to the back of his head and a bloodied face that required treatment at a hospital. The incident is still under investigation.

Two cars stolen on Tuesday

A woman reported her car, a Dodge Intrepid, stolen between 3 and 4 p.m. from the parking lot on Tuesday. About an hour later, a woman reported her Chrysler Concorde stolen from the parking lot at .

Man found with cocaine during traffic stop

Troy Police officers pulled over a 42-year-old Redford Township man Tuesday afternoon near Interstate 75 and Long Lake. According to a media release from the department, officers then found a bag under the driver's seat that field tested positive for cocaine. The man was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine.

Man tries to steal returnables, assaults officer

Officers responded to a call from employees who said a man was attempting to steal returnable cans from the hotel early Monday morning. The man is believed to be the same man who attempted to steal returnable cans from the hotel two nights ago and on several previous occasions, according to police.

Officers located and stopped the man, who said he had missed his turn on his way home from the "race track." Police found a nearly empty bottle of vodka and two packages of "haze" – synthetic marijuana – in the car. Officers also found a trunk full of returnable bottles and cans.

After an investigation, the 35-year-old Pontiac man was arrested for operating under the influence of alcohol and open intoxicants in a motor vehicle.

During a blood test at an area hospital, the man allegedly assaulted a police officer, a paramedic and a registered nurse. As a result, he was also charged with assault and battery.

Check stolen from mailbox

A homeowner on the 2000 block of Cedar Knoll called police after she witnessed a car pull up to her mailbox, where she had just placed five stamped pieces of mail. The driver removed one piece of mail, leaving the rest behind.

According to the homeowner, the stolen piece of mail contained a credit card payment with a personal check made out to the credit card company for several thousand dollars.
