Residents Oppose Troy Town Center Development
The mixed use development would feature parks, a community square, up to 850 residential units on the 125-acre site.

TROY, MI. β Not so fast. Thatβs what residents are telling city leaders about the massive Troy Town Center proposed development. The mixed use development would feature parks, a community square, up to 850 residential units and 180,000 square feet of retail/commercial space on a 125-acre site near Big Beaver Road and I-75.
Opposition to the project is mounting, however. Leaders are collecting signatures to put a charter amendment before voters. About 2,920 signatures, or 5 percent of Troy registered voters, is required by Aug. 1 to get an amendment on the ballot, the Troy Times reported.
βItβs a massive development,β said Troy resident Frank Howrylak, who is helping to spearhead the petition drive. βIt changes the face of Troy. Development of the center comes up every so often. We fight it every time.β
According to the Troy Times, the proposed ballot language on the current petition being circulated states: βThe City shall not enter into an agreement for the transfer, sale, lease, or use for more than 90 days, of any parcel of public land the whole of which is greater than two (2) acres, except by the affirmative vote of a majority of city electors voting on the question at a general election.β
