Suspects Arrested For Shoplifting At JC Penney
Three people, two from Detroit and one from Hazel Park, allegedly stole more than $800 worth of merchandise on Sept. 1.

TROY, MI — Three people were arrested for allegedly shoplifting more than $800 worth of merchandise from a 14-Mile Road store in Troy on Sept. 1. According to Troy Police reports, officers saw two “suspicious” vehicles in the parking lot of JCPenney at about 6:15 p.m. with several people coming and going out of them with merchandise.
The two vehicles, a maroon 2002 Chevrolet Impala and a black Chevrolet Equinox, were subsequently stopped by officers after leaving the parking lot. Reports said police recovered $854.77 worth of merchandise allegedly stolen from JCPenney.
A 27-year old Detroit woman was charged with Retail Fraud – 1st Degree. A 19-year-old Detroit man and a 17-year-old Hazel Park woman were arrested as well and charged with Retail Fraud – 2nd Degree. A fourth suspect, a 25-year-old female from Hazel Park, was arrested and charged with Operator’s License Never Acquired.

Church Broken Into
Saint Thomas More Catholic Church was reportedly broken into between Aug. 27-28. While nothing of value was stolen, according to Troy Police reports, a conference room was ransacked and vulgarity was written on the chalkboard. Reports said it was possible a door had been left open.

In all, Troy Police handled 697 calls for service during the period of Aug. 27 through Sept. 1. A total of 36 arrests were made with the majority of those, 13, being for outstanding warrants.
