Tonight: Free Concert by Western Michigan University Symphonic Band

The band will stop by Troy High School this evening as part of its spring tour.

’s bands will play host to one of the nation’s premiere music ensembles as Western Michigan University’s Symphonic Band comes to town on its annual Spring Tour.

The WMU Band performs extensively throughout the United States and in countries as far reaching as Australia and China. The performance is tonight at 7 p.m. at Troy High School; it is free and open to the public.

"This is a unique opportunity for our community to see such a talented group of musicians on our stage. It is an honor to be able to perform with them as well,” said Troy High Band Director Brian Nutting.

The Troy High School Symphonic Band will also perform with Western’s band this evening. The THS Symphonic Band was recently awarded “superior” ratings at this year’s Michigan State Band and Orchestra Association Festival.  This is the 13th year in a row for the Symphonic Band to receive such high accolades. 

All of the Troy Band Ensembles will celebrate their many accomplishments when they host their Spring Concert on May 17 at 7 p.m. The Concert will take place in the Troy High School Auditorium; admission is free.

Later in April, two Troy High Band members will travel to Western Michigan to participate in the Jack Stamp All-Star Band during the School of Music’s annual Spring Conference on Wind and Percussion Music. 

Grace Fu, a French horn player, and John Pop, a trumpeter, were nominated by Mr. Nutting for the honor of representing their school. They are among 119 students from throughout the state playing in the Robert Sheldon All-Star Band. Pop will play first chair trumpet. 

The Jack Stamp All-Star Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. on April 12 in Miller Auditorium on the University’s Kalamazoo campus.  It is open to the public and free of charge.
