TROY, MI — The Troy Athens boys' soccer team lost to East Kentwood in a heated state championships match-up at Comstock Park High on Nov. 5.
Over the last week, the Hawks had penalty kicked their way - twice - to become the regional champions, after a botched call forced a rematch. However, when yesterday's state championship game came down to a shoot out, the Hawks were outscored 3-2 in penalty kicks, and East Kentwood was named state champs in a 1-0 win.
State Finalist- Thanks to @TheHawksNest17 and our families and friends for the support this season & for going to Comstock- 19-5-2. #gohawks

"We died by what we lived by to get here,” Athens head coach Todd Heugh told MLive. “It’s a coin flip when you get to a shootout. You have to give credit to our kids for fighting."
