Troy Police: Woman Scammed Out Of $2,300

Someone posing as a Microsoft employee made fraudulent charges to a Troy woman's credits, according to police.

TROY, MI — A total of $2,300 was fraudulently charged to a Troy woman’s credit cards, according to a Troy Police Department report. Someone claiming to be from Microsoft told the woman her computer had been hacked and her personal information stolen on Aug. 29.

The caller told the woman he could fix her computer for $3,400. If she didn’t get it fixed, she could “get arrested for the fraud the suspects were committing,” the police report stated.

Troy Police said the woman, who lives in the 2000 block of Teasdale Drive, allowed the caller to access her computer and accounts. The suspect then allegedly charged $900 to her Visa credit card and $1,400 to her MasterCard.

The suspect was also given her saving and checking account numbers as well as a picture of her State of Michigan Operator’s License, according to the police report. Troy Police are investigating the incident.
