Troy School District Names Ed Segovia Teacher Of The Year
The second grade teacher at Morse Elementary will receive a lease on a new car as part of his Teacher of the Year honors.

TROY, MI β The Troy School district announced Wednesday that Ed Segovia, a second grade teacher at Morse Elementary School, was named Troy's elementary, and overall teacher of the year. According to the announcement, Segovia βwas surprised this morning by friends, colleagues, students and family. And by special guest Bart deBrow of the Suburban Collection β with a special gift of a new car to drive!β Since 2011, the Suburban Collection, an area car dealership, has given a 2- or 3-year lease on a new car to teachers who win teacher of the year in nine school districts.
On Twitter, congratulations for Segovia poured in from peers, parents and former students. In 2018, The Suburban Collection plans to offer leases to teachers of the year from Birmingham, Clarkston, Cranbrook, Farmington Hills, Ferndale, Novi, Sterling Heights, Troy and Waterford.
"It is our way of giving something back to the men and women who have contributed so much to the success of our children and our next generation of leaders." David Fischer, President & CEO of The Suburban Collection, said in a release. The Suburban Collection is Michigan's largest car dealership network. The Collection carrues 36 brands of vehicle, both US-made and foreign, and operates 52 dealerships in the state.

Segovia, an Eastern Michigan grad who began teaching in the Troy School District in 1996, expressed gratitude for the award. He hasnβt decided which car heβll drive with his free lease, but the Suburban Collection has a wide array of choices, including Land Rovers, Jeeps, Alfa Romeos, Acuras and Dodges, among many others. Last yearβs Troy School District teacher of the year was Kristy Pierce. Nominations are made by students, parents and colleagues.
