Troy Students Will Focus On Reading, Writing

A dozen Troy teachers took part in a Columbia University writing and ready seminar and are bring ideas to implement in classrooms.

TROY, MI — Reading and writing skills are even more important in today’s world. With that in mind, Troy teachers will implement a number of new strategies designed to make reading and writing something students do every day when classes start Tuesday. A dozen district teachers and administrators recently participated in a Columbia University seminar to help them hone students’ skills.

“The goal is (students) viewing themselves as writers and thinkers and someone with something worthwhile to say,” said Natalie Haezebrouck, curriculum instructor and elementary literacy specialist for the district.
“We’re looking for students to be well-rounded in reading, writing, listening, speaking and thinking,” Kris Griffor, assistant superintendent for elementary education, said.
