TROY, MI — Real estate developer Mario Kiezi announced Monday he bought the Oakland Mall in Troy, and plans to remodel it. MKiezi Investments was expected to reveal more details Monday afternoon.

The giant 1.5 million-square-foot shopping mall near Interstate 75 dates back to 1968, and is home to several stores, such as Macy's, JC Penney, Dick's Sporting Goods and At Home.

Some new concepts could include new brick-and-click ideas, such as ghost kitchens, creative retail distribution and more, according to Kiezi.

"We plan to build on our draw of young families seeking value and retail concepts that meet their needs and price points without intimidation," Kiezi told dbusiness. "We also plan to enhance our tenant merchandise mix and host events that appeal to families who seek a non-elite, unique, and exciting shopping experience."

Kiezi owns other real estate and retail properties throughout metro Detroit, including the former Sears store on the site of Oakland Mall, which MKiezi Investments is redeveloping, according to a LinkedIn profile.
