Week Ahead: Ice Cream Social, Summer Reading Finale, 2013 Bond Issue, and More

There's a lot going on in Troy this week. Here are five things you should know as you go about your week.

It's a busy week in Troy, as usual. What do you have planned?

Here are five things you should know as you go about your week:

1. Ice Cream Social Open House: Come and enjoy ice cream sundaes and family fun activities courtesy of the Troy Nature Society (6685 Coolidge Hwy.) next Sunday at 1 p.m. Ray's Ice Cream of Royal Oak is providing their delicious ice cream for the event. There will be all kinds of family activities and guided trail walks. There is no charge to attend, however, pre-registration is requested by Aug. 9. 2. Troy School Board Meeting: A regular meeting, as well as a workshop, will be held on Monday night at the district Administration Building (44200 Livernois). Among the topics on the agenda are ballot language for the 2013 bond issue and the appointment of an associate principal at International Academy-East. 3. Summer Library Program Finale: You've been waiting all summer for this: Race the Slot Car Track! Pet an adorable alpaca! Show off your hula hoop skills! Make a summery craft! Celebrate the fun of summer reading at the Troy Public Library (510 W. Big Beaver Rd.) on Thursday by stopping by the Carousel Acres Petting Farm and stopping by the beach themed party in the meeting room. There is no charge to attend.

4. Cheddar's Preschool Story Time: Join Cheddar the Museum Mouse for a classic tale in the Troy Museum & Historic Village (60 W. Wattles Rd.) monthly program for little historians (ages 2-5) with a simple craft and yummy treat. The event was scheduled on Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. The cost is $3 for a child; $5/adult. or more information or to register, visit troyhistoricvillage.org.

5. LETT-UCE Provide You Lunch: The volunteer vegetable garden at the Troy Historic Village is ready for harvest and it wants you to be there. This Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., you can pick a plate full of fresh greens and clean them right on-site. Add veggies, protein, and dressing from home, then enjoy a healthy picnic lunch in the Village. Greens, plates, plastic utensils, and napkins provided.
