Week in Review: Budget Talks, City Manager Search, Athlete of the Week

Here's a recap of the past week's news in Troy.

A lot happened last week and we want to make sure you didn't miss a thing, so here are some of the highlights:

  • Government: : City Council met at 5 p.m. Wednesday to discuss how to replace City Manager John Szerlag, who recently accepted a position with Cape Coral, FL. 
  • Budget Talks: : Continued funding of the Troy Historic village is also on the table with a second budget study session scheduled for Monday evening. : Troy Police Chief Gary Mayer discusses his department's budget challenges with Troy Patch in this candid, unedited Q&A session.
  • Pet of the Week: . Onyx is available for adoption through Paws for Life Animal Rescue in Troy.
  • Readers' Choice: . Young's Chinese Food Carry Out in Royal Oak beat out nine other restaurants and carryouts, based on reviews and ratings.
  • Accomplishments: . Dudzinski is recognized for his community service initiatives and exemplary service in the department. . The winners will be recognized at a special award ceremony on May 17.
  • School News: : School secretaries encouraged students to collect hundreds of pairs of socks for Oakland Family Services foster care programs. A local elementary school has a spelling bee with a twist: they partner up with residents of American House Senior Living Community. : Students spend Friday learning about different countries and cultures during the school's first-ever World Exploration Day.
  • Volunteers in the News: : Wristbands are still available for the charity game, Field of Angels, which will take place May 11 against the Clarkston Wolves. : The group will ship the recorders to troops in Afghanistan, including Troy Rotary member and soldier Jason Hale, who will distribute the recorders to Afghan children.
