Where Did Troy Rank Among the Washington Post's Top 5 Wealthiest Area ZIP Codes?

The Washington Post's list put 48098 among the top five wealthiest ZIP codes in the state.

A new list from the Washington Post ranks Troy as having one of the wealthiest ZIP codes in Michigan.

At No. 3 in the state, 48098 in Troy has a median household income of $80,707, according to the Post. Metro Detroit cities rounded out the top 5 "Super ZIPs" in the state, including Novi, Huntington Woods, Franklin, and Rochester Hills.

In Troy overall, 66 percent of adults are college grads and the average household income is $116,049, according to michiganradio.org.

Yet many who live in these rapidly evolving communities do not think of themselves as rich or elite. The cost of living, particularly for housing, eats up a large chunk of the two incomes it typically takes to afford a comfortable home in a good school district.
