Woman Realizes Apartment Is On Fire While On The Phone With 9-1-1
Tenants in five units are in temporary housing until apartment repairs are complete.

TROY, MI — A woman dialed the city's 9-1-1 call center to report difficulty breathing however, during the conversation discovered a fire had broken out in her apartment, according to a new release.
The incident happened at 10:26 p.m. on Nov. 9. The fire department, police and EMS units were all dispatched to the complex at 704 Lamplighter. Firefighters confirmed a working fire in the woman's unit on the 2nd floor and began searching the entire structure for occupants. All were reported outside - safe and out of harm's way.
Attack crews quickly controlled and extinguished the fire. They established positive pressure ventilation and initiated overhaul procedures to prevent the fire from spreading.

There was one injury, the woman who originally called 9-1-1. She was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, and taken to Wm. Beaumont Hospital – Royal Oak. The building took a beating. Smoke damage was reported throughout the building, affecting the five adjacent apartments. The complex management company has provided temporary housing for the tenants until their apartment repairs are complete.
The origin and cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are incomplete at this time.
