3 Teen Girls Seriously Injured in Waterford Boat Explosion
The explosion appears to have resulted from the buildup of gas vapors in the engine compartment of the boat.

WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, MI — Three teenage girls were seriously injured Saturday afternoon when a boat exploded at the Cass Lake Dry Dock Marina in Waterford, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said.
The explosion about 4:15 p.m. at the marina, located at 4175 Chenlot Drive, appears to have been caused by the buildup of gas vapors in the engine compartment of the boat, according to a news release. The incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Marine Division.
The most seriously injured of the teens, a 15-year-old from Waterford, received third-degree burns and is being treated at the Children’s Hospital Burn Unit in Detroit.

A 15-year-old from West Bloomfield Township received second degree burns and was treated at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. A 13-year-old from Waterford received first-degree burns and was treated at the scene by paramedics.
The boat was owned by a 56-year-old Waterford man.
