Event at Orchard Lake St. Mary's Focuses on Civil War History

The Greater West Bloomfield Society hosts speakers on Oct. 12 who will discuss Custer, Civil War clothing and military arms. Reservations required by Oct. 9.

Learn more about the Civil War battles, clothing and weapons Oct. 12, during an event at Orchard Lake St. Mary's Preparatory School hosted by the Greater West Bloomfield Historical Society. 

Enjoy brunch and hear popular speaker Dave Finney, who will talk about "16 Summer Days: Custer Meets the Wolverines". Other presentations include Gary Pike n Civil War clothing, Rudy Ruzicska on military arms and Brian Bohnett on his Michigan Military Academy collection. Bohnett will also lead two campus walks relating MMA history.

Finney is a nationally recognized scholar, author, and lecturer regarding Civil War topics. Bohnett author of Them Was the Days! has researched and collected memorabilia from the old Michigan Military Academy (MMA) for over a decade. Pike was born in Alabama and his ancestors fought in the Civil War. Ruzicska is a black powder muzzleloader enthusiast who, for many years, chaired the Greenfield Village Muzzle Loaders Festival.

Cost for the event is $15, including brunch, and reservations are required by Oct. 9. Call 248-808-0893.
