“In another year full of disruptions for public education, our school board members rose above the adversity of 2021 to provide remarkable leadership in unprecedented times. Oakland Schools and the districts we serve benefit from their dedication to safeguarding quality education for every student, said Oakland Schools’ Superintendent Dr. Wanda Cook-Robinson. “Celebrating School Board Recognition Month is one of the very small ways to express appreciation for all they do.”

Throughout the pandemic, the Oakland Schools Board of Education has been instrumental in forming community connections to bring the best resources possible to students.  For example, more than 3 million food packages were distributed to Oakland County students to address the needs of food insecure families.  In addition, the school board has been instrumental in ensuring that students have access to technology as districts pivoted quickly to virtual learning.

The Oakland Board of Education is elected to six-year staggered terms every other year by the boards of Oakland County’s 28 school districts.  The school board’s agenda is driven by a continued commitment to excellence and equity for every student.

“While we are making a special effort during January to show appreciation for our school board members, we recognize their contributions reflect a year-round effort on their part,” said Superintendent Dr. Wanda Cook-Robinson. “We are confident that our school board members will continue to govern to improve student achievement and provide exceptional education for all our community’s children.”

The Oakland Board of Education was recognized for their dedicated service during Oakland Schools’ Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, Jan.18.  The members serving on the Oakland Board of Education are Mr. Connie Williams; president; Mr. George Ehlert, vice president; Mrs. Barbara  DeMarco, treasurer; Dr. Theresa Rich, secretary and Mr. Marc Katz, trustee.
