Teen Who Drowned in Middle Straits Lake Identified
The Walled Lake school district planned to make counselors and social workers help students work through grief over the student's death.

WEST BLOOMFIELD, MI — Authorities have identified the teen who drowned after jumping from a boat on Middle Straits Lake in West Bloomfield Township early Thursday morning.
The victim was Sean Patrick Collins, 17, a student at Walled Lake Central High School. He was among a group of seven teens, ages 16-17, who were on the boat. When Collins didn’t resurface after jumping from the boat, the others called 911.

The Walled Lake school district said on its website that Collins was “a well-liked student who performed in several musical and dramatic productions and was an integral member of the Walled Lake Central High School family.”
The school district said counselors and social workers would be available to meet with students who are grieving from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at Walled Lake Central High School.

Funeral arrangements are pending, according to the school district.
