West Bloomfield Man, 20, Charged in Stabbing Incident

Brian Jayson-Lee Aponte, the 20-year-old man who barricaded himself at a home in West Bloomfield with a shotgun Thursday, was arraigned and charged with three counts in connection with the stabbing of his 19-year-old brother.

Aponte remains at Oakland County Jail after being charged with assault to do great bodily harm less than murder, felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

West Bloomfield Police Lt. Tim Diamond offered no comment as to Aponte's criminal history. 48th District Judge Diane D'Agostini, who arraigned Aponte on Friday, set bail at $1 million.

Police were dispatched to the brothers' parents home at 7167 Crestmore in response to a fight which allegedly resulted in the victim being stabbed once. Diamond said that Aponte's brother was released from McLaren Hospital in Pontiac.

After the alleged stabbing, Aponte barricaded himself in the home with a shotgun as police waited outside. 

Diamond said that a friend and the boy's father communicated with the older brother on the phone and he surrendered at 11:39 a.m.
