West Bloomfield Police Make Arrest in Murder of Woman Burned in Car

BREAKING: Police say the suspect will be arraigned Monday in 48th District Court.

(UPDATED) WEST BLOOMFIELD, MI — Police in West Bloomfield said Monday they had arrested Desean Maurice Smith, 18, in the murder of a woman whose body was discovered in a burned car in West Bloomfield Friday morning.

Smith was arraigned in 48th District Court on charges of open murder, arson and felony firearm, the West Bloomfield Police Deputy Chief Curtis Lawson said in a statement.

On Saturday, the victim was identified as Diana Pesserl, 31, of West Bloomfield.

Pesserl's fully clothed body was found in the burned-out car about 1:25 a.m. Friday in the rear parking lot of the former Pine Lake School, 3333 W. Long Lake Road, where they have discovered human remains in a burned-out car.
