• Michigan lawmaker unknowingly axed funding to Downriver center named after his dad (thenewsherald.com) — State budget cuts just wiped out the remaining $1.5 million in state funding to repair the historic James R. DeSana Center for Arts and Culture in Wyandotte, even though the city already received about $500,000. In a twist, state Rep. Jim DeSana voted for the cuts that hit the building named after his father, while local and regional leaders now push to restore the money.

• Portofino tour boat heads back to Miami (thenewsherald.com) — Longtime Wyandotte favorite the Portofino tour boat, once docked at the former Portofino restaurant on the Detroit River, has left Downriver for a new life offering cruises in Miami. Locals who celebrated weddings, brunches, and senior outings aboard her can’t ride her here anymore, but many of those memories and traditions still tie the vessel closely to Wyandotte’s riverfront history.
