    Frozen supplemental shakes have been linked to a listeria outbreak in 21 states, including Minnesota, that has sickened dozens and resulted in 11 deaths, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

    The shakes, sold under the Lyons ReadyCare and Sysco Imperial brands, were distributed to institutional settings like long-term care facilities, the FDA reports.

    As of Feb. 21, 38 people across 21 states have been infected with the outbreak strain of listeria. Of those, 37 have been hospitalized, and 11 deaths have been reported.

    Other states affected include Alabama, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and West Virginia.

    FDA officials were first alerted in late November about a listeria outbreak impacting residents at long-term care facilities. An investigation traced the source of the outbreak to Lyons ReadyCare or Sysco Imperial brand shakes. Some cases of illness date back as far as 2018, with 20 cases reported in 2024 and 2025 alone.

    Of the 38 affected individuals, 34 lived in long-term care facilities or had been hospitalized prior to becoming ill.

    Lyons Magnus LLC has announced a voluntary recall of 4 oz. Lyons ReadyCare and Sysco Imperial Frozen Supplemental Shakes due to potential listeria contamination.

    The recalled products were distributed primarily to long-term care facilities and were not available for retail sale.
