MN Trooper Crashes Responding To Wrong-Way Driver; Child Critical

A trooper was heading to a wrong-way crash when he collided with one of the vehicles involved, authorities said.

CLEAR LAKE, MN — A child was critically injured and four others hurt after their vehicle collided with a State Trooper rushing to respond to a wrong-way driver in central Minnesota on Thursday.

"We are deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred last night on Highway 10 in Clear Lake," State Patrol Col. Christina Bogojevic's said in a statement.

"Multiple people were injured in an incident involving a wrong-way driver, a second vehicle that included juvenile occupants, and a responding Minnesota State Patrol trooper. Our thoughts are with those affected, and we recognize the profound impact this has on everyone involved."

According to the State Patrol’s preliminary information, a trooper was responding to reports of a wrong-way driver when that driver collided with another vehicle.

As the trooper approached the crash scene, he struck at least one of the vehicles involved.

Assisting troopers provided immediate medical care until EMS arrived.

Five people were injured between the initial and secondary crashes. A juvenile suffered life-threatening injuries, while the other four had non-life-threatening injuries.

“Our troopers work across the state each day to keep Minnesota roads safe,” the State Patrol said in a statement. “Our hearts go out to all of those involved and their families during this difficult time.”

The Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office has been asked to investigate the entire incident.
