15-Year-Old Driver Among Dead After Head-On Crash In Rosemount

The teen attempted to pass in a no-passing zone, resulting in a crash that killed both him and the other driver, authorities said.

ROSEMOUNT, MN — A head-on collision in Rosemount claimed the lives of a 15-year-old driver and an 81-year-old driver, after the teen attempted to pass in a no-passing zone, authorities said. A 78-year-old passenger was injured.

On Monday at about 3:30 p.m., Dakota County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a two-vehicle head-on crash on County Road 46 (160th Street West) near Biscayne Avenue.

A 2012 Ford Fusion driven by David Rosas, 15, of Rosemount, was traveling east on County Road 46 near Biscayne Avenue.

Rosas was behind a semi-truck and pulled into the westbound lane in a no-passing zone in an attempt to pass, witnesses told police.

A 2014 Lincoln MKX, driven by 81-year-old Dennis Dahlstrom with 78-year-old Sandra Dahlstrom of Champaign, Illinois as a passenger, was approaching from about a quarter-mile away.

Both drivers swerved onto the north shoulder at the same time and collided, authorities said.

Rosas and Dennis Dahlstrom died at the scene. Sandra Dahlstrom sustained critical injuries and was transported to the hospital.

"In this tragedy, there were several heroic citizens that stopped to render aid to the victims before first responders arrived," the sheriff's office said. "We extend our deepest condolences to the victims’ families and friends involved in this tragic incident."

The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Minnesota State Patrol, is continuing its investigation into the crash
