Apple Valley Named A Minnesota Greenstep City

In the Greenstep City program, Apple Valley said it took steps to focus on several categories.

APPLE VALLEY, MN — The city of Apple Valley was recently named a "step 5 Minnesota Greenstep City." The city is made up of nearly 50,000 residents and has a city staff of 187, Greenstep's website said.

In the Greenstep City program, Apple Valley said it took steps to focus on cost saving, energy use reduction, resource conservation, climate change and encouraging civic innovation.

Categories in the program include buildings and lighting, land use, transportation, environmental management and resilient economic and community development, according to Greenstep's website.

Through each category are actions-Apple Valley has completed 57 actions, the website said.

Each action is also given a certain number of stars. The city completed 42 one-star actions, nine two-star actions and five three-star actions, the website said.
