AV Teen Wins $100K Scholarship For Being Fully Vaccinated

Minnesota's "Kids Deserve a Shot" campaign offered a slew of incentives, including $200 gift cards, tickets to Vikings games and much more.

APPLE VALLEY, MN — An Apple Valley teen will have $100,000 to put towards his college education after winning a scholarship as part of Minnesota's "Kids Deserve a Shot" campaign to encourage kids to get vaccinated against the coronavirus.

Josiah Canpos won the $100,000 scholarship for being fully vaccinated, Gov. Tim Walz announced Monday. Canpos is one of five winners, with kids from Plymouth, Rochester and Stillwater also receiving six-figure scholarships.

The "Kids Deserve a Shot" campaign offered a slew of incentives, including $200 gift cards, tickets and gear from Minnesota's professional and college sports teams, a "zookeeper for a day" experience, and much more.

Prizewinners were selected through a drawing by the Minnesota State Lottery.
