Mohamed is scheduled to appear in court again on July 23 at 1:30 p.m. in Hastings.
According to the criminal complaint, officers were dispatched to Kelley Park shortly after midnight on May 10, following a report of suspicious activity. A 911 caller said they saw a man wearing a black ski mask with a gun in his waistband.
As police were en route, multiple additional 911 calls came in reporting gunfire. One caller said someone had been shot.
According to the complaint, Mohamed went to the park earlier that night to look for his sister, whose phone location showed she was there. While at the park, he got into an argument with others, pulled a gun from under his hoodie, and began striking people with the weapon and pointing it at others, witnesses told police.
At one point, an 18-year-old reportedly received a phone call in which someone said, "If you don’t come back, I’m going to kill your friend," the complaint states.
When the 18-year-old returned to the park, a witness ran up to his car yelling, “Get out, they’re going to shoot,” according to the complaint. The 18-year-old told police he saw Mohamed standing about 100 feet away before being shot in the face.
He was rushed to a local hospital and underwent emergency surgery for life-threatening injuries, including trauma to his face and neck, lacerations to his tongue and chest, and multiple fractures to his teeth and jaw.
According to the complaint, Mohamed later admitted to wearing a ski mask and firing about 10 rounds at a car in the park. He said he did not know the people in the vehicle and described the firearm as a peanut butter-colored P80, authorities said.
A search of Mohamed’s phone and social media accounts belonging to his friends revealed videos of him handling firearms, including a P80-style gun, authorities said.
County Attorney Keena thanked the Apple Valley Police Department for their "thorough investigation and the apprehension of the defendant."
