Woman Rescued Amid 'Dangerous And Dynamic' Standoff In Dakota County

The standoff began with a domestic violence call and ended with a dramatic rescue and the suspect hospitalized.

DAKOTA COUNTY, MN — A standoff in Dakota County's Ravenna Township ended Tuesday after deputies rescued a woman from a home and found a man inside with a serious self-inflicted neck injury, authorities said.

"This was a dangerous and dynamic situation," said Dakota County Chief Deputy Dan Bianconi. "I’m proud of the bravery and courage shown by our deputies in the face of danger in rescuing the victim and navigating a quickly evolving situation. I also commend the South Metro SWAT team for their skillful response and use of technology in resolving a very complex incident."

Deputies were dispatched around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday to the 15000 block of Ravenna Trail for a reported domestic disturbance involving a firearm.

At the scene, they made contact with a woman who said she feared for her life. Deputies safely evacuated her through a second-story window. She was evaluated at the scene and was physically unharmed.

Deputies briefly spoke with the suspect, but he retreated into the residence and refused to come out.

The area was secured, and South Metro SWAT responded. Using drones and other technology, officers located the suspect inside the home with a serious neck injury that appeared to be self-inflicted.

SWAT officers provided emergency medical aid, and the man was transported by ambulance. His condition is stable, officials said.

Multiple firearms, including handguns and rifles, were recovered from the home, authorities said.

The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. Officials thanked the public for their patience during the incident
