Burnsville City Hall, Cop Shop to Undergo Much-Needed Facelift
The city's municipal center and adjoining police department need upgrades.

Burnsville officials are sharing their vision for the city's nearly 30-year-old municipal center and adjoining police department at an upcoming open house.
The Burnsville City Hall and next-door police department at 100 Civic Center Parkway were built in 1988 and have yet to undergo significant upgrades. The city tasked Wold Architects and Engineers in 2014 with conducting a "space needs" study for the facility to outline short- mid- and long-term plans. Officials will share those plans with residents at an Aug. 11 open house.
"Based on the results of the study, the city is proposing a phased construction plan to deal with needed
renovations," officials said Friday, in a news release. "The first phase is meant to improve public safety, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility, operational efficiency and visitor convenience ... "

A long-term master plan for Burnsville Fire Station No. 1, 911 140th St., is also part of the initial process.

- Redesigning and expanding the police department property, evidence storage area and evidence processing center.
- Redesigning police training, conference and office spaces.
- Redesigning police department detention area.
- Redesigning city hall community and meeting room spaces.
- Completing general building modifications and updates for ADA compliance.
The architect and design team will be available at the upcoming open house, where they will field residents' questions and solicit their design feedback.

- Why: The Burnsville City Council will be reviewing the schematic design for the project's first phase at an Aug. 8 city council meeting. Final design considerations will be discussed later this fall.
