Burnsville Man Pleads Guilty To Methamphetamine Distribution

Officials say he sold methamphetamine out of hotels rooms he rented in the Twin Cities.

BURNSVILLE, MN — A Burnsville man pleaded guilty Monday to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, according to a news release from Acting U.S. Attorney W. Anders Folk from the District of Minnesota's United States Attorney’s Office.

Eric Michael Dungy, 50, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Wilhelmina M. Wright, and a sentencing date has not yet been set, according to the news release.

In the summer of 2020, officials determined that Dungy was selling methamphetamine out of Twin Cities hotel rooms, the Attorney's Office said.

Dungy was arrested Sept. 30, 2020 in the parking lot of Element Hotel in Bloomington, and officials found heroine and over $16,000 in cash on his person, according to the news release. While searching his vehicle, law enforcement found 364 grams of methamphetamine, three methamphetamine pipes, needles, gallon Ziploc bags with methamphetamine residue on them, an electronic money counter and a Kel-Tec 9mm handgun, the Attorney's Office said.

Officials later searched Dungy's hotel room Oct. 3, 2020, and found 5.5 pounds of methamphetamine and other items belonging to Dungy, according to the news release.

Dungy was again investigated for methamphetamine distribution after being released from jail on bail in Nov. of that year, officials said.

He agreed to sell three pounds of methamphetamine to an undercover officer for $15,000 in December, 2020, officials said. The same day, police searched two hotel rooms he had rented in Bloomington and found 6.5 pounds of methamphetamine, 13.5 grams of heroin, three digital scales, multiple small Ziplock bags, eleven phones and $12,286 in cash, according to officials.

This case was investigated by Drug Enforcement Administration, the Cannon River Drug and Violent Offender Task Force, Homeland Security Investigations, and the St. Paul Police Department, the news release said.

The case will be prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Allen A. Slaughter Jr., according to the news release.
