Wesley Rayvon Johnson, who asked arresting officers to speak to his mother last month, has now been charged with leading Minneapolis police on a high-speed chase that apparently ended with a dramatic performance.

A Burnsville man who was arrested last month in Minneapolis and charged with illegally possessing a gun has run afoul of Minneapolis police again, this time for leading them on a high-speed chase and feigning unconsciousness after he crashed his car.

Wesley Rayvon Johnson, 20, was arrested Nov. 8 and charged with fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, a felony with a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Minneapolis police were on routine patrol in the area of 21st Avenue and Fremont Avenue North just after 2 a.m. Nov. 8 when they heard gunfire, according to the criminal complaint. They spotted a car stopped at a stop sign, and watched the driver make a quick U-turn without signaling, then speed away.

A front-seat passenger jumped out of the car and fled on foot. Police caught up with him and determined that he had active arrest warrants.

As police approached the stopped car, they saw the driver, identified as Johnson, slumped over the steering wheel, apparently unconscious. However, officers quickly determined that he was faking, and arrested him, according to the complaint.

Several other passengers in the car suffered injuries in the crash.

Johnson has been released from custody on a $20,000 bond. He is scheduled to make a first appearance on the latest charge Nov. 16 in Hennepin County District Court.
