District 191 Swaps 'Empty Bowls' of Clay for Donations to Benefit Needy

The school district is holding its annual "Empty Bowls for Full Bellies" event on Thursday at the Diamondhead Education Center.

Earlier this year, District 191 students and staff members joined Burnsville community members and took to the pottery wheel, making hundreds of handcrafted clay bowls.

This Thursday, the clay creations will be offered at "Empty Bowls for Full Bellies," an annual sale benefiting Brainpower in a Backpack (a program that collects weekend food stuffs for needy children in the district).

With their donation, attendees will receive a simple meal of soup and bread and can select a handmade bowl to take home.

"The purpose is to remind participants that some children in the District 191 community face hunger every day," the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District wrote in a press release.

“We are asking our community to come together and show that we are unified in our goal to stamp out hunger,” said Fay Finn, youth service specialist for District 191 Community Education.

The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, at the Campus Cup café in the senior campus, upper level, Diamondhead Education Center, 200 W. Burnsville Parkway.
