Two Women Arrested for Trashing Car with Baseball Bat

A pair of Burnsville women have been accused of battering a neighbor's car and smashing the windows out with a baseball bat. 

Teckla Christine Williams and Shanika Jeanine Mays, both aged 24, each face one charge of third-degree damage to property, a gross misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a $3,000 fine. Mays is also charged with driving after suspension, lacking proof of insurance and possession of a small amount of marijuana.

On Monday night, Burnsville Police were called to an apartment complex on the 14000 block of Portland Avenue South. There officers met with a woman, who said that the windows of her mother's car had been broken out by two females she knew from the apartment building. The woman said she witnessed the act itself as she was walking down the complex hallway with two other people. The trio saw Mays and Williams outside, bludgeoning the Nissan Pathfinder with a baseball bat and an "unknown object." The two then got into a Mitsubishi Galant driven by a third party, who also lives at the apartment complex.

The attack left about half the windows shattered. The damage totaled $887.81.

The woman told investigators that Williams had persecuted her ever since she moved into the complex. She told police that Williams had behaved aggressively in the past, talking to her boyfriend, stalking and harassing her.  

Both Williams and Mays have been released, but the judge has ordered the two stay at least 500 feet away from the victim at all times.
