According to the criminal complaint, Burnsville police were called to an apartment complex just after 5 p.m. April 27 on a report of a woman hitting a boy in the parking lot.

When police arrived, they spoke to Unger and the 10-year-old boy. The boy, who had cuts on his head, told officers that Unger had tried to get him into her car, but he had struggled with her.

The boy said Unger hit him repeatedly, causing his head to hit the concrete.

Unger allegedly told police that she had recently been “having problems” with the boy. She said  that he had refused to get into her car when she arrived to pick him up from school on April 25, and that she eventually left him there and drove away without him, according to the complaint.

The boy had been living with a family friend since April 25, Unger told police.

Unger said she was “done” with the boy  and that no one knew what she had “given up” for him, the complaint says.

Unger is free on her promise to make all future court appearances and is prohibited from having any contact with the victim. An omnibus hearing in her case is scheduled July 31 in Dakota County District Court in Hastings.
