EAGAN, MN — A drug deal in a grocery store parking lot ended in handcuffs Monday in Eagan after law enforcement officers intercepted a major methamphetamine transaction, according to authorities.

Luis Pablo Lopez-Velazquez and Christian Alejandro Montero-Gutierrez were arrested in Eagan after attempting to exchange a pink suitcase containing 9,126 grams — approximately 20 pounds — of methamphetamine.

The suspects had driven a Hyundai Elantra to a parking lot in the 1500 block of Central Park Commons, unaware that law enforcement was monitoring their movements, authorities said.

As the deal went down, officers from the Ramsey County Sheriff's Violent Crime Enforcement Team stepped in just in time, stopping the drugs from hitting the streets.

The operation brought together the Eagan Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, and other federal partners.
