The historic creamery was shuttered in August after it leaked milk into the city's sewer system.

HASTINGS, MN — The historic Hastings Co-Op Creamery burned down overnight and the building likely suffered a total loss, according to multiple reports. The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
A blaze broke out at about 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday and continued through the night, the Star Tribune reported. The fire was extinguished by 5 a.m. Thursday, according to KARE 11.
The creamery was run by a group of farmers focused on sustainable methods and has been in business for over 100 years, notes MPR News. It was shuttered in August after it leaked milk into the city’s sewer system.

The Metropolitan Council in June disconnected the creamery from Hastings sewers after the business leaked thousands of gallons of dairy products into the local wastewater plant.
The business bought milk from roughly 45 suppliers in Wisconsin and Minnesota. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture is working to find new processors for the affected farmers.
