LAKEVILLE, MN — A 32-year-old St. Louis Park man was charged with second-degree murder (intentional) in the shooting death of a pregnant woman on Sunday.

Fletcher's newborn is now "fighting for his life," according to the family. Fletcher was nine months pregnant when she was killed, according to her sister.

"At the time of her death, Ms. Fletcher was pregnant. The baby was delivered via cesarean section and is currently in critical condition. If the baby does not survive, additional charges will be filed in relation to the baby’s death," said Keena in a statement.

"My deepest sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Ms. Fletcher for their great loss."

Keena added that "Mr. McCray is currently on probation in Hennepin County for possession of a pistol in a public place without a permit. Under the terms of his sentencing order, effective May 18, 2022, he was required to forfeit all firearms and was prohibited from possessing any firearms."

McCray made his first appearance in court on Tuesday. His bail was set at $2,000,000 with conditions by Judge Karen Asphaug. McCray's next court appearance is set for Jan. 19.

The shooting occurred just before 7 p.m. Sunday in the 9800 block of 217th Street West, according to Lakeville police, who said the woman was inside her vehicle when she was shot.

She was pronounced dead later that night at the Hennepin County Medical Center.

McCray has a work connection with the Amazon facility where the shooting took place, police said.

Keena thanked the Lakeville Police Department, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office for their work in the investigation.
