12.9 Percent of Edina Voters Turned Out for School Board Election

The figure is about average in Edina for an off-year election with no referenda on the ballot.

Just under 13 percent of registered Edina voters came to the polls on Tuesday, according to an unofficial tally by the city clerk’s office.

The figure is on par with past off-year elections without major referenda, said city clerk Debra Mangen.

Preliminary numbers show that 26,884 Edina residents were pre-registered to vote, with an additional 134 people taking advantage of same-day registration.

The 12.88 percent voter turnout figure was higher than the 10.1 percent who voted in 2009 and the 4.97 percent who voted in 2005—the last two off-year elections without referenda on the ballot.

"My hope is that voters turn out for every election," Mangen said.
