2 Arrested In Connection With Edina Attempted Carjacking: Police

EDINA, MN — Two people suspected in a recent attempted carjacking in Edina were arrested Thursday, though a third suspect is still being sought, according to police.

The same suspects are also linked to attempted carjackings in St. Louis Park, police from both cities said in a joint news release issued around noon Friday.

The two suspects who were arrested are being held at the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center while charges are pending against them, police said. Edina police did not identify the suspects who were arrested.

Three people were hurt Dec. 9 in an attempted carjacking at a Lunds & Byerlys store in Edina. Police said four juveniles tried to carjack an occupied vehicle in the parking lot before two bystanders tried to help.

Edina Police Launch Camera Program, Plan Talks On Carjackings

Edina police are offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of several teens they say were involved in the attempted carjacking.

The Edina Police Department said it is maintaining increased patrols throughout the city and is urging residents to “stay aware of your surroundings.”

Edina police have launched a new program called "SafeCam" that asks residents and businesses to register their security cameras with the department so officers can quickly determine who to call if a crime is reported in that area.

Edina Police Chief Todd Milburn is due to hold two "Town Talks" discussions Monday at Edina City Hall about carjackings, auto thefts and other public safety issues.

The first discussion is scheduled to start at noon Monday, with a second session at 7 p.m. The talks will be broadcast on Edina TV and the city's Facebook page next week.

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office is also ramping up its efforts to prosecute carjacking suspects, with two prosecutors recently assigned to specialize in those cases.
