Students entered the 2022 program by taking the 2020 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test as juniors. Less than 1 percent of all high school students were named as semifinalists for the program, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation said.
Semifinalists were required to submit a detailed application that included information about their academic record, leadership abilities, employment and participation in school and community activities.
