‘Alberta Clipper’ Could Bring Snow To Edina On Friday: NWS

Residents must remove their vehicles from Edina streets if at least 1.5 inches of snow fall.

EDINA, MN — Edina could get a few inches of snow Friday from an “Alberta Clipper” storm moving across northern U.S. states, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS said there is a 70 percent chance of snow Friday in Edina, with up to 4 inches of snowfall possible.

A major snowstorm was set to hit the Twin Cities metro Friday, but heavier snow is now more likely to fall in southwest Minnesota after it shifted directions.

Up to 3 inches of snow could fall in parts of the Twin Cities metro, while up to 6 inches could fall in southwestern Minnesota counties, where a winter storm warning has been issued, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm is caused by a low pressure system, fondly nicknamed an "Alberta Clipper," originating in Alberta, Canada, and moving southeast, the NWS said. The Alberta Clipper usually brings cold and snow along with it.

Hennepin County is also under a hazardous weather outlook. The National Weather Service said a mix of snow and freezing rain is possible Thursday morning, with snow likely on Friday.

City ordinances ban residents from parking on Edina streets from 1-6 a.m. every morning from Nov. 1 until April 1.

Residents must also remove their vehicles from Edina streets if at least 1.5 inches of snow fall. Vehicles must remain off city streets until they are fully plowed.

Vehicles that violate Edina ordinances can be ticketed or towed and impounded, with the owner responsible for paying all fees.
