Architectural Firm Awarded $627k Contract for Sports Dome/Ice Rink Project
The new facilities could be operational by November 2014.
Edina has taken the first steps toward its plans to build the city $13.2 million in new athletic facilities.
The architectural firm Cuningham Group was awarded a $627,000 contract last week to provide architectural and engineering services for a sports dome, an outdoor refrigerated ice rink and Pamela Park playing fields.
The contract covers design and development, construction documents, bidding and negotiating, construction administration, evaluation of work, and certification for payment to contractors.
Edina’s city council voted in mid-October to proceed with plans for the new facilities. The funding will come from bonds, which are expected to raise annual property taxes on median-valued homes by $60 to $75 per year.
The new facilities, which could be operational by November 2014, should help make peace in the contentious battle between Edina’s hockey association and a local figure skating club over ice time.
