Artists of All Ages Contribute to Community Project

Attendees at this past weekend's Edina Art Fair had a chance to help paint 50 canvasses.

Visitors to the not content to just inspect and purchase art had a great opportunity to channel their inner Jackson Pollack as part of a community art project.

and Blick Art Materials teamed up to sponsor the project, which saw anyone interested splattering paint on 50 blank canvasses throughout the . Some of the finished works of art will be displayed at Whole Foods, while the remainder will be given to this year's Art Fair sponsors.

Diane Fleetham, president of the 50th & France Business Association's Board of Directors, said the project was designed to appeal to all attendees and give them a way to actively participate in while at the Edina Art Fair.

"Instead of just walking around at this fair, we really wanted to give everyone something fun to do," Fleetham said. "It's the sort of thing kids really enjoy, but adults can also be part of it."

Julia, 10, and Claire, 13, spent part of a busy day at the fair expressing themselves on one of the massive canvasses. While family members staffed a booth to sell professional artwork, they snuck away to make their own creation.

"It's a lot of fun," Claire said. "But I think I dripped as much on my foot as the painting."
