Bloomington Man Accused of Threatening, Sexually Assaulting Edina Woman

Bret Andrue Rogers, 31, of Bloomington, faces charges of criminal sexual conduct in the third degree.

A 31-year-old Bloomington man is accused of threatening, then sexually assaulting a woman known to him inside of her Edina home.

Bret Andrue Rogers, of Bloomington, faces charges of criminal sexual conduct in the third degree, a felony carrying a penalty of up to 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine. He was released from Hennepin County Jail on Mar. 8, after posting $50,000 in bond.

Edina Police responded to a residence in the 6600 block of Vernon Avenue on Mar. 3, where they found the victim "visibly upset and crying." She told police Rogers, who she knew prior to the incident, came to her home that morning and got involved in a physical confrontation with her boyfriend.

Police report Rogers stayed at the home after the woman's boyfriend left, yelling at her and referring to her using derogatory terms. Shortly thereafter, the report alleges Rogers took the victim by the arm and forced her into a bedroom, where he grabbed her by the throat and told her "if she did not cooperate he would kill her."

The victim alleges Rogers issued several other threats, then forced her to have sexual intercourse with him. Rogers allegedly left following the assault, according to the report.

A witness in the residence at the time of the incident corroborated the victim's report of being choked by Rogers and then forced into the bedroom.

Police observed redness on the victim's arm consistent with her claims, in addition to bruising on her thigh, face and legs, according to the report. Officers also collected several articles of clothing and bedsheets that appeared to have some DNA evidence on them, the report states.

Rogers turned himself in to the Edina Police Department on Mar. 3, allegedly claiming he and the victim had taken part in consensual sexual intercourse that morning. When asked about the injuries the victim sustained, he reportedly told police "she likes it rough."

Rogers is scheduled to appear in Hennepin County Court before Judge Daniel C. Moreno at 9 a.m. on Mar. 18 for an omnibus hearing.
