Colonial Church Of Edina Rebrands As Meetinghouse Church
Church leaders said the name change was prompted by prayer, conversation and learning about the legacy of colonialism since July 2020.

EDINA, MN — The Colonial Church of Edina will now be known as Meetinghouse Church, with leaders saying they want to move away from the old name which “had come to evoke the legacy of colonialism for many people.”
The process to rebrand started in July 2020 and included “prayer, conversation and learning” about the legacy of colonialism and “whether it best reflected the church’s commitment to loving and welcoming their neighbors,” church leaders said in a release.

The term “meetinghouse” refers to the church’s heritage in the Congregational tradition and New England churches in the 17th and 18th centuries that “were frequently used both as places of worship and hubs for community gatherings and conversation,” leaders said.
Ministers Jeff Lindsay and Sara Wilhelm Garbers unveiled Meetinghouse Church’s new name and logo at its annual meeting April 24, according to the release.

The church’s new logo is inspired by its structure and symbolizes a hub to reflect its “commitment to being both a gathering place for the surrounding community and a collective of people moved by Jesus to act in service and solidarity with their neighbors.”

Lindsay said the new name “better reflects who we are” as a church community.
“Our congregation chose this new name because, as Jesus' followers, we want to be known most for our love and our commitment to seek the good of our neighbors,” Lindsay said in the release. “This name change is just one part of that, and we're excited for what the future holds."
