Eastbound Hwy. 62 Closed All Weekend for Resurfacing

The eastbound lanes of the Crosstown will be closed to traffic through 5 a.m. on Monday, July 16.

Motorists planning to get anywhere via the Crosstown this weekend should allow themselves some extra time, as the eastbound lanes of Hwy. 62 will be closed for resurfacing between Hwy. 169 and I-35W until Monday, July 16.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation plans to reduce eastbound traffic to one lane at 8 p.m., then completely close all eastbound lanes at 10 p.m. Friday. The eastbound lanes will reopen for traffic at 5 a.m. on Monday.

During the closure, drivers will be directed to take a detour on southbound Hwy. 169, eastbound I-494 and northbound I-35W to access eastbound Hwy. 62.

In the case of inclement weather, the roadwork might be rescheduled, according to MnDOT.

The $3.4 million Hwy. 62 revitalization project will see the Crosstown and several ramps resurfaced this summer to create a smoother roadway and extend the life of the pavement. The resurfacing will take place between Tracy and Penn avenues.

The overall project also includes upgrades and revised traffic signals at four interchanges—Valley View Road, France Avenue, Xerxes Avenue and Penn Avenue—to provide better accessibility for pedestrians.

The entire project is estimated to be completed by early August.

Additional closures are expected for the remainder of the summer. Overnight ramp and lane closures are also expected on Hwy. 62 throughout the project, as well as some daytime lane closures at the four interchange roads.
