Edina Crews Suspect Electrical Malfunction to Blame for Reported Vehicle Fire
The Edina Fire Department's weekly activity report for May 16-22.

The responded to the following incidents during the week of May 16-22:
May 16
- Eight incidents required Emergency Medical Service by paramedic firefighters.
- Firefighters responded to a 911 call from a resident and a fire alarm was reported at an apartment building in the 7200 block of York Avenue South. A washing machine motor in the laundry room on the fourth floor overheated and activated the fire alarm. The unit was unplugged.
- Specially trained paramedics, members of Edina’s Emergency Response Team, were called to assist police in St. Louis Park.
May 17

- There were 13 EMS incidents.
- A reported vehicle fire was investigated on Xerxes Avenue and Heritage Drive. An electrical malfunction was suspected in the dash area but there was no fire or smoke upon arrival. A tow was ordered for the car.
- A complaint about the smell of smoke from a recreational fire was investigated in the 5700 block of Zenith Avenue. No source of smoke was found in the area and no smoke smell noted.
- Five false fire alarms were reported.
May 18
- A fire was reported in the mulch in front of an apartment building in the 4000 block of West 65th Street. Fire crews extinguished the smoldering and burning mulch, finding discarded cigarettes to be the likely cause of the fire.
- 12 EMS responses.
- One false fire alarm was reported due to dust from construction.
May 19

- Eight EMS calls.
- St. Louis Park Fire requested mutual aid assistance for a possible house fire but cancelled fire units en route.
- Firefighters investigated a reported odor in the 5200 block of Lochloy Drive. The house was checked with a gas monitor without finding a problem or odor. The crew did discover a possible source of odor in a bathroom that had been cleaned earlier with an assortment of chemicals.
May 20
- 13 EMS responses.
- Firefighters responded to a request from Richfield Fire Department for mutual aid at a possible garage fire. Edina crews were cancelled upon arrival.
May 21
- Eight EMS incidents.
May 22
- Edina crews assisted the St. Louis Park Fire Department at a house fire in the 3000 block or Oregon Avenue South after a possible lightning strike.
- Nine EMS responses.
- Two false fire alarms were reported.
