Edina Earns Third-Place Trophy with 84-49 Win Over Eden Prairie

The boys varsity basketball team wrapped up a tremendous season by finishing in third place at the Class 4A state tournament.

The Edina boys basketball team wrapped up its 2012-13 season the best way possible Saturday evening, defeating Lake Conference rival Eden Prairie 84-49 to win the Class 4A third-place game.

The Hornets rebounded from Thursday night's heartbreaking loss to Park Center to absolutely dominate the Eagles, taking a 9-6 lead a few minutes into the first half—thanks to a three-pointer from senior guard Graham Woodward—and never looking back.

The one-two punch of Woodward and Reggie Lynch was once more in effect for the Hornets, with the two seniors combining for 51 points. Woodward finished the game with 29 points, eight assists, six rebounds and two steals, while Lynch had 22 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and four blocks.

Fellow senior Mark Handberg had seven points, eight rebounds and one assist. Ben Boone contributed nine points, three rebounds and two assists.

Edina finished in third place at the 2013 Class AAAA MSHSL Boys' State Basketball Tournament. They shot 56.9% from the field with 40 points in the paint to take an 84-49 win over Eden Prairie.

Edina guard Graham Woodward nailed a three-point shot to put his team up 9-6 at the 15:18 mark of the first half and the Hornets never trailed for the remainder of the game. The halftime score gave Edina a 33-23 edge, a margin that continued to grow in the second half of play. 

Both teams controlled the ball well and had minimal turnovers. The difference in the game came from field goal efficiency and an Edina 37-28 rebounding edge. 

Woodward shined for Edina, shooting 11-of-20 from the field to lead all players with 29 points. He also had six rebounds and eight assists. Reggie Lynch added 22 points to the Edina cause and topped all players with 10 rebounds. 

Eden Prairie guard Sam Johnson led his team with 15 points. He was the only Eagles player to finish in double figures for scoring. The team shot 32.1% from the field.
