Edina To Get $275K ‘Safe Routes To School’ Infrastructure Grant
The grant is expected to fund construction of a new shared-use path and sidewalks near Cornelia Elementary, according to state officials.

EDINA, MN — Edina is set to receive a $275,000 grant from Minnesota’s Safe Routes to School program to improve infrastructure and make it easier for students to walk and bike to school.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation said it is awarding $8.2 million to schools and cities across the state to help them plan more pedestrian-friendly routes, boost existing programs and upgrade infrastructure.

Edina was recently awarded a $275,000 grant to fund construction of a new shared-use path and sidewalks along Claremore Drive near Cornelia Elementary School, according to MnDOT.
Interim MnDOT Commissioner Nancy Daubenberger said the projects funded through the Safe Routes to School program have allowed thousands more students to be able to walk or bike to their schools.

“More students walking and biking means less traffic on the road and near schools, improving safety and promoting healthier kids,” Daubenberger said.
MnDOT said it has awarded more than $50 million to schools and cities since 2005 through the Safe Routes to School program, with the majority funding infrastructure improvements.
