EHS Ranks 2nd Best in Minnesota for College Prep

The Washington Post released its High School Challenge rankings, ranking Edina 238 out of 1,900 schools.

For the third time in a matter of days, a national publication has ranked near the top of Minnesota schools.

U.S. News and World Report was the , saying Edina was the second best high school in Minnesota. A few days later, Newsweek , ranking it the best in the state.

The Washington Post is the latest publication to get in on the ranking bonanza, saying Edina is the second best high school in the state at preparing students for college by offering college-level tests.

The Post’s High School Challenge ranked Edina second in the state for how it prepares students for college. Nationally, the school was ranked 238 out of 1,900 schools that made the list.

Only 9 percent of the country’s 22,000 schools made the list, including 26 in Minnesota.

To grade the schools, the Washington Post divided the number of college preparation tests that students took by the number of graduating seniors. Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Advanced International Certificate of Education tests were all tallied. Schools with a score above 1.0 made the list.

Edina scored 3.662 points, meaning each EHS student averages that many college prep tests.

St. Louis Park ranked the highest in the state, with a score of 4.051. Schools in other neighboring districts that made the list were:

  • Minneapolis Southwest, third with 3.655 points
  • Minneapolis South, fourth with 3.281 points
  • Minnetonka, fifth with 2.737 points
  • Eden Prairie, 14th with 2.043 points
  • Hopkins, 24th with 1.282 points

The list excludes magnets and charter schools that have average SAT or ACT scores greater than the highest average for normal enrollment schools—which translates to 1970 for the SAT or 29.5 for the ACT.
